Our collaborative work with the XJTU team titled "Electric Field Dropping Effect Enhanced Extraordinary Sensitivity of THz Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Metamaterial" is published in IEEE Sensors Journal.
This paper introduces a novel terahertz (THz) metamaterial sensor with electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like characteristics. The design uses two resonators with different metal thicknesses, creating an undulated metamaterial that enhances electric field distribution in the presence of an analyte. The undulated metamaterial demonstrates a sensitivity of 550 GHz/RIU, outperforming sensors with uniform metal thickness, and experimental results validate the enhanced sensing performance, offering a promising avenue for ultra-sensitive biosensor design without altering the metamaterial pattern.
